Permanant Tatto Removal

Today, Laser treatment is the preferred treatment for tattoo removal. Different lasers are used to remove different types of tattoo ink. It is always better to consult your doctor to know which kind of laser is appropriate for your specific tattoo.

Laser Tattoo Removal: The procedure

Laser treatment differs from patient to patient based on the age, size, and type of tattoo. The color of the patient’s skin, as well as the depth or extension of the tattoo pigment, will also influence the technique used for removal.

Here is a step-by-step detailing of the laser treatment procedure:

  1. 1. First of all, protective eye shields are placed on the patient.
  2. 2. The reaction of the skin to the laser is tested so as to identify the most effective energy for treatment.
  3. 3. The treatment consists of positioning a handpiece against the skin surface and activating the laser light.
  4. 4. While smaller tattoos require fewer pulses, larger ones need more. In either case, the tattoo removal requires numerous treatments and multiple visits. After each session of the treatment, the tattoo becomes progressively lighter.
  5. 5. Soon after the treatment, an ice pack is applied to relieve the treated area. The patient can then apply a topical antibiotic cream or ointment. A bandage or patch is placed to protect the area and it should be covered with sunblock when you go outdoors.
